Guide & Policies:
E-Learning:
E-Learning is defined as a formal educational process in which learning takes place in its entirety or partially through computer-mediated communications, when the lecturer and learners are not in the same place at the same time.
E-Learning is a multi-purpose delivery methodology that opens up learning regardless of location. The interaction between lecturer and learners is mediated using digital text, audio, video, and/or other interactive computer technologies.
E-Learning is to be encouraged as it allows for reaching into communities that might not otherwise have access to learning.
The vision for E-Learning as set out in this E-Learning Policy:
▪ To integrate technology into the current curriculum and assessments thus increasing access to learning.
▪ To empower learners by enabling more interactive learning.
▪ To encourage and facilitate more creative and innovative teaching and learning.
▪ To provide the minimum requirements and standards for a learning management system which is more flexible and responsive to individual needs.
▪ To enhance quality in the education and assessments provided.
AFAAKI’s E-Learning Goals
AFAAKIs E-Learning goal is to expand access to vocational and higher education opportunities for local and international students through online and blended learning programmes. Digital technologies will be used to provide relevant and timely coursework, knowledge, and training to enhance the learning experience by removing the barriers of both time and place. AFAAKI will utilize multiple tools/platforms including (Google Classroom,Google Meet ,Skype,Zoom and Whatsapp audio/video lessons) supporting learners with the necessary digital tools/literacy to enroll in its programmes and learn from the comfort of their home or from any location.
Types of Online Education
1.2.1 E-learning courses
E-Learning classes are offered with all work being completed using electronic technologies. Learners access primary content and instruction from an e-learning environment using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, e-mail, text and voice chat, discussion boards, web pages, and multimedia technologies. Specific technologies employed will vary by course and faculty. Depending on the teaching style of the faculty and the course content, instruction can take place synchronously (all participants in the course log in at the same time) or asynchronously (participants log in and participate as their schedule permits), or some combination of the above.
1.2.2 Online Courses
Courses are offered fully online using Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) or web presence to enhance the course.
1.2.3 Distance Learning
Is carried out remotely by using electronic communication and is not bound by geographical locations. Distance learning provides a more flexible course schedule for those that have a family and/or are working students.
1.2.4 Blended courses
Blended classes provide an opportunity to take advantage of both online learning utilizing Video Conferencing. Students must attend video conferencing courses.
1.2.5 Web-Enhanced Courses
Web-enhanced classes are traditional face-to-face courses that use tools in the E- learning environment to expand student learning beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
2. Safeguarding
Our safeguarding responsibilities and statutory duties to safeguard and protect children remain when utilizing technology to support learning. For many staff and students this may be a new experience, and we want to ensure that all staff are aware of how to keep themselves and their students safe while working in this way.
The following points are a list of considerations when using video conferencing. Important points to note from this guidance are:
2.1 A video call should never take place with only one staff member and one 16-19 yrs. student.
2.2 All those taking part in an online video call should ensure no personal or inappropriate
information is in shot (e.g. phone numbers, beds, adult material).
2.3 If a teacher is beginning a remote lesson online, they should ensure that video remains turned
off until more than one student is on the call.
2.4 Teachers should never broadcast from a personal YouTube channel. AFAAKI' s- approved remote teaching platforms include Microsoft Teams,Google Meet,Google Classroom,Zoom,Skype and Whatsapp Audio/video call.
2.5 Where possible the 'call' function in Teams should be used for voice calls. Where a telephone
call is required, staff must not use personal mobile phones but MUST dial +91 before the phone
number – this will withhold the caller's number from the recipient. Student numbers must not
be stored in personal phones and must be deleted after calling.Any concerns that arise from using online teaching resources such as video chats must be reported to Admin via contact@afaaki.com.
Using Teams for voice calls
In the Chat tab, click the 'new' icon (a box with a pencil in it) and search for a student. Click the
Telephone icon in the top right-hand corner of the chat.
Turning off video in a chat
If you have accidentally turned on video during a chat you can turn it off again. If you move your cursor during the chat a bar will appear at the bottom of the screen with icons that allow you to switch off video and mute your microphone.
3. Disabilities:
Students/Learners with Disabilities Faculty or instructional designers developing the online course need to consider AFAAKI' s policy to address students with special arrangements. Furthermore, the online course developer or faculty need to work closely with the E-Learning Coordinator in collaboration with the Student Support Services, particularly the Lead Learning Coach to address the student need.
The Student Support Manager together with the Lead Learning Coach provide services and identifies needs of students with disabilities. These provide related advertisement, counseling, and support for the student, and offer professional guidance for staff and faculty on the adjustments to program design and facilities required to serve the student appropriately. The Specialist coordinates with other AFAAKI's departments to address and case staff clientele to monitor progress and/or make necessary adjustments.
AFAAKI is committed to meeting the specific needs of students with disabilities. Any documentation provided by a medical professional should be made available to the senior management.
4. Data Integrity
▪ AFAAKI must be confident that there is sufficient capacity to hold all necessary data and that the systems will operate successfully.
▪ AFAAKI must ensure that effective testing of system capacity has taken place, and where applicable, that such data can be provided to the senior management for quality assurance purposes.
▪ E-assessment systems must be stable and work reliably to generate valid and reliable assessments and/or results. They must be demonstrably consistent with relevant recognised standards of good practice and be easy to navigate.
▪ Systems must allow for flexibility in the light of technological development.
▪ System testing must be thorough and be reviewed at regular intervals once the system is operational.
▪ AFAAKI must ensure that suitable support facilities are in place for all venues and that there is a comprehensive contingency plan should any part of the system fail.
